Lone Kite

Description

Pretty much the first bird anyone will spot when travelling into North Queensland are some form of Kite or other. They are everywhere, patrolling gracefully over fields, forest and roads looking for a meal.

They prey on small rodents, lizards and large insects mostly, but also take advantage of road kill, feeding on the carcasses of the many kangaroos and wallabies that fall victim to our open roads.

But, if you own guinea pigs don't let them loose in your yard in Townsville!

This bird is a Black, or Fork Tailed, Kite (it's called black even though it is various shades of brown).
